Expectations

  • I. Pre-Qualifying Interest-Registration:  After reviewing the Summer Internship website to see all the opportunities, please fill out the Interest-Registration Form for the AACPS 2023 Summer Intern-Explore Program. Deadline to fill out the Interest-Registration Form is 5 p.m. on June 13, 2023

    NOTE: We have hit our application cap.  Please check back later in the week to see if we reopen the application site for additional applicants.  We will post a notice here if we reopen the application site.

    After this Interest-Registration Form has been submitted and approved by AACPS, Summer Interns are expected to complete the following:

        • Follow instructions in the email your will receive, titled: “Welcome to Your 2023 Summer Internship”
        • Save the dates and plan to attend mandatory AACPS Summer Intern New Employee Processing Day on June 14th or June 22nd and Summer Intern Orientation Day on June 28th, 2023.
          • You will be notified individually by Human Resources when to attend the New Employee Processing on June 14 or June 22 at the Board of Education at 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis MD
          • Summer Intern Orientation Day for all summer interns is on June 28 from 8:30am-12:00noon at Severna Park High School at 60 Robinson Road, Severna Park, MD

    II. Summer Intern NEW Employee Processing Day and Orientation Day:  After you have completed all elements in Step I above, AACPS Summer Interns are expected to:

      • Apply online to the AACPS Human Resources (HR) student internship employment application for the job titled, “Temp-Work Based Learning-Student Explore Internship
      • Register for a virtual Admintern portal instructional How-To session by completing and submitting this Admintern Training Session Form.  This How-To session will help you to create your required Admintern profile and show you how to document your internship hours and complete your required Admintern portal reflections and other activities.

    Note 2: If you would like to try to build your Admintern student profile before the How-To Session, please use this Admintern Profile Direction Sheet.

      • Attend Summer Intern New Employee Processing Day on June 14th at 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD (AACPS Central Office) per the appointment time scheduled for you by HR.  Please bring the following:
        • Identification (ID)
        • Work permit
          • (Fill out permit application and submit online, print receipt, and bring it with you to New Employee Processing)

    NOTE: You will be fingerprinted during this New Employee Processing Day.

      • Attend the mandatory AACPS Summer Intern Orientation Day on June 28th from 8:30am-12:00pm at Severna Park HS located at 60 Robinson Road, Severna Park, MD.
        • Following your Orientation Day experience, complete Reflection Questions inside the AACPS Admintern web portal.
        • Send an email to your Summer Internship Supervisor introducing yourself and giving them your contact information no more than 24 hours after your Orientation Day experience
        • Plan what you will wear, what time you will arrive, and how you will be transported to your internship during your four or six week experience

     

    III. Summer Internship:  After you have completed all elements in Step II above , AACPS Summer Interns are expected to:

      • Review and complete this Summer Internship Checklist 48 hours prior to the first day of your paid internship.  
      • Arrive at your Summer Internship on time (or early) each day
      • Dress appropriately for the Summer Internship setting in which you are assigned to work
      • Sign in daily at your Summer Internship work location
      • Work every day of your 4 day/week Summer Internship; people are counting on you 
        • Every AACPS Summer Intern will work Monday through Thursday during their summer experience; Fridays are not workdays for AACPS Summer Interns
        • There is only 1 vacation day (on July 4th) permitted during the four or six week AACPS Summer Internships. No interns will work on July 4th.  No other vacation days are permitted during the four or six week AACPS Summer Internships
      • Complete all reflection questions weekly in the AACPS Admintern web portal to document your AACPS Summer Internship
      • Complete the final summary in the AACPS AACPS Admintern web portal to summarize your work and your experiences as an AACPS 2023 Summer Intern.
        • You must complete all reflections and summary work to receive your 1.0 internship credit for your high school transcript.
