GANG AND GANG-LIKE ACTIVITY; COMMUNICATING SCHOOL RELATED CONCERNS

  • In an effort to be proactive in our response to gang activity in our communities and schools, AACPS (in cooperation with Anne Arundel County Police Department) has developed a Student Safety Initiative, which will include a gang awareness and education program. Students in grades 5-12 are receiving classroom instruction about gangs, responsible decision-making, and the supports and resources available to them. These lessons are age-appropriate and designed to actively engage the students. 

    AACPS has school counselors available to help any students dealing with bullying and related issues (to include gangs and gang related activity) as they arise. Each school counseling department also has access to resource information to help parents and community members identify mental health resources in the community. School counselors can assist parents in identifying appropriate resources and providing contact information. The following resources are also available:
