    REQUEST TO LEAVE SCHOOL EARLY.  (EARLY DISMISSAL)

    A request to have a child excused from classes early should be sent with the child on the morning of dismissal.  The time and reason for leaving should be included.  Daily dismissal starts at 2:25 p.m.  Students will NOT be released for early dismissal after 2:00 p.m.  The time just prior to dismissal is a crucial transition period for students and teachers.

     

    VISITORS

    While visitors are not required to complete commercial background criminal history checks. Visitors will only be required to present photographic identification that allows school personnel to enter the visitor's  name into a software program that checks Registered Sex Offender databases in the United States.

     

    VOLUNTEERS

    Volunteers, who potentially may have more direct contact with students must first apply for a commercial background check utilizing the following link: Application.  At this time we are providing monthly opportunities for parents to access the building to volunteer.  Therefore, all visitors and volunteers are pre-arranged and will be accompanied by an AACPS employee while in the building.

     

    MEALS

    All students will receive breakfast.  We ask that all families complete an online meal application, your child may qualify for free lunch.  Click on ‘meal application’ below to access this application.  Results of the completion of the applications help the state in determining schools with a percentage higher than 40% who receive Title I funds.

    We understand sometimes students forget their lunch delivery, if needed, should occur prior to lunch time of the student and be labeled by the parent. We will place them in a designated area in the cafeteria for the students to pick up.

    REDO POLICY

    Within the marking period, there is the opportunity for students in grades 1-5 to have one additional opportunity to improve a score of 69% or less on a qualifying weekly test, quiz, cluster test, activity, or assignment in each of the content areas.  There is no re-do for assignments or assessments completed in Media, Music, Physical Education, or Art.

     

    COMMUNICATION & CLASSROOM VISITATION

    We ask that you communicate via phone or note when you are interested in visiting a classroom.  We welcome opportunities for parents to visit.  This provides insight for you into instruction and curricular demands; however, we do ask that you please provide teachers with 48 hours notice.  This provides the teacher an opportunity to notify you of any adjustments to the schedule.

    During your visitation, please refrain from the use of cell phones and other devices within the classroom; this is to include taking of pictures, or recording, as well as bringing small children.  We want students to attend instruction and learn as much as possible.

     

    BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS 

    Due to the prevalence of food allergies and other health-related initiatives,  we are not able to accept cupcakes/food items to celebrate birthdays.  Thank you for helping us ensure the well-being of our students!  Please feel free to send in alternatives to celebrate your child's birthday.  Some alternatives may include: Pencils, Erasers,  Bookmarks, Stickers, Glowsticks, etc.

     

    RECESS GUIDELINES

    Recess will be held indoors on days when the air quality is at level Orange or the "feels like" temperature is at 95 degrees or hotter.  During the winter months, recess will be held indoors when the "feels like" temperature is 35 degrees or colder.
