Strategic Plan Indicators

  • After each school leadership team reflected on its school culture, community, and the key contributing factors to student growth, they used this information to select the Strategic Plan Indicators that would have the greatest positive impact for their students.  Each school was directed to select two to six indicators on which to focus during the 2018-19 school year.  Certainly, we all know that if we focus narrowly and deeply, we are more likely to realize positive results.  The indicators that this school’s leadership team selected are noted below.

  • 2019-2020 Strategic Plan Indicator(s) Chosen by the School - 1, 3, 5, 6, 10 (expand to view details)

Strategic Journey

  • Throughout the next 3 years, schools will focus on their chosen Strategic Plan Indicators as the drivers to increase student engagement and achievement within their schools. They will choose strategies to help them grow or increase within each indicator and will monitor and evaluate the student and school changes that take place along the journey.  Below you will see what this school imagines their students and school to look like in 2021 after having focused and worked on their chosen indicators for three years.

Our Vision of Success: 2021

  • The future of success for Tyler Heights looks bright! As we complete our school facility construction project, we are also constructing a future for our learners where their heritage is valued and their minds are challenged. Our School Improvement Plan indicates an action step for Positive School Culture where we will work to make students, families, and staff feel welcomed and valued in our school. We will continue to implement Restorative Practices with our entire school participating in Community Building Circles in each classroom for 10 minutes daily.  Restorative Practices have repaired relationships and brought us closer as a community, and we look forward to building stronger relationships. We will also continue to employ a range of mindfulness techniques, and each classroom has a calming corner to help students refocus on learning. (Indicators 1 and 3)

Our innovative ESOL instructional approach will continue to support students in the classroom to ensure that they are making adequate language growth from year to year. Our School Improvement Initiatives focus on Language, Literacy, Math, and Positive School Culture. In alignment with our School Improvement Plan, we will continue to work to advance academic growth at the same time that we grow our language acquisition and increase the number of students reading on grade level. (Indicator 5)

In addition, with regard to our students’ academic achievement in Math, we will use data from the AACPS Quarterly Assessments and PARCC Assessments to measure our progress in this area. Because the data parses out the specific items that address computational fluency and problem solving, we will proceed to analyze our data through the lens of language proficiency. (Indicator 6)

Our school community will say that we are a nurturing and caring community where students, parents, and staff feel valued each day and our teachers work together to make teaching and learning fun and engaging. We will continue our strategic and innovative approach to learning with our main School Improvement Plan action steps: Language, Literacy, Math, and School Culture. We will continue to research best practices to meet the needs of our diverse population, and continue to collaboratively coach each other to become the best educators that we can be!   At Tyler Heights Elementary, Together is How we Excel!
