    AACPS Athletics Trainer Shortage

AACPS is contracted with MedStar and PIVOT to provide training services for each of our 13 high schools.  MedStar services Arundel, Chesapeake, Crofton, Glen Burnie, Meade, Northeast, and North County high schools.  PIVOT services Annapolis, Broadneck, Old Mill, Severna Park, South River and Southern high schools. This shortage of available athletic trainers is an unfortunate circumstance that is being felt locally and nationally. Most every public school system in Maryland with athletic trainers is experiencing these same shortages.  AACPS is in a better situation than many other counties.  Until we become fully staffed, we will continue to actively work with our two vendors to provide some service at all schools through a variety of approaches.  As we navigate these circumstances and collaborate with both vendors, we are also acutely aware of balancing our school system needs with the workload and stress associated with being an athletic trainer.

Point of Emphasis for all Stakeholders

It is critically important that all stakeholders involved in our athletic program are respectful and supportive of our athletic trainers.  Their work is an integral part of our overall program.  We are very grateful for each and every one them!  We expect all our student-athletes, coaches, spectators, and families to join us is support of our athletic trainers.  In the event any of our community members is aware of someone who is qualified and interested in athletic training opportunities, please share that information with the Office of Athletics.
