THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023

Bodkin Elementary School

  • When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Bodkin Elementary's School Story

  • Bodkin Elementary, located in Pasadena, Maryland, serving communities surrounded by the northshore of the Magothy River, south shore of the Bodkin Creek and Main Creek, and westshore of the Chesapeake Bay, is a shining example of a school that strives for excellence. Since its opening in 1970, Bodkin has been embraced by community members. Many of Bodkin’s former students continue to live in and support the Bodkin community. We value these partnerships, recognizing that they promote academic excellence and the social-emotional well-being of our students. We believe that strong relationships between school and community allow us to best serve our students as we provide them with meaningful learning opportunities within and beyond the school setting. These relationships extend to Chesapeake Bay Middle and Chesapeake High School, where students learn and grow on our shared campus.

Recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, Bodkin strives to carry on the tradition of academic excellence. Our caring and dedicated teachers commit themselves to meeting the needs of all of our students. Our instructional and support staff currently serves 566 students. By providing rigorous academic challenges, the teachers at Bodkin work to ensure that all students in our care learn and grow to their potential. Our commitment extends to nurturing the whole child. As part of our county’s Enhancing Elementary Excellence (Triple E) program, Bodkin is a Global Studies school. We strive for all students to know that the work they do here matters and positively impacts the community. Our students strive to be Global ChangeMakers by embracing the attributes of empathy, leadership, teamwork, and problem solving to make a difference in our community.

Located a quarter mile from the scenic Chesapeake Bay, Bodkin teaches environmental stewardship to our students. As a Green School, we promote a healthy environment as we maintain sustainability. Bodkin also enjoys a strong relationship with our PTA, which supports our school in countless ways every day. Each year, parent volunteers log thousands of hours as they work to enhance the school experience for all of our students. Parents and teachers sponsor an array of extracurricular activities to support the whole child. Clubs and extracurricular activities include Bodkin Striders, Girls on the Run, SeaPerch, Robotics, 24 Club, Chorus/Strings/Band, Chess Club, plays, dance, and Culture Club. As we embark on a new year, we will strive to continue what has long been a tradition of excellence at Bodkin Elementary School, all the while remembering the tremendous impact that we have on the lives of ALL of our students.
