THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023

Tyler Heights Elementary School

  • When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Tyler Heights Elementary's School Story

  • Tyler Heights Elementary is a neighborhood school nestled within the Annapolis Community, serving 453 students. Upon entering our school building, visitors will get a sense of a welcoming, friendly, and positive learning environment that is inclusive of all. Our school pride is evident in the student work samples displayed in the hallways, as well as the awards and plaques visible for visitors to observe.

We work to build our brand around the Team Tyler approach, a holistic accountability to cultivate a nurturing and engaging school culture that meets the needs of all students and their families. Our school vision, Together is How We Excel, guides how we teach and learn. We also work to develop a culturally responsive and trauma sensitive environment to facilitate the growth of the whole child.

In addition to providing rigorous and engaging instruction, Tyler Heights provides an Enhancing, Elementary, Excellence (Triple -E) program with an Arts & Humanities theme. Our Triple-E program is designed to spark creativity and teach students to approach problems with an open mind; and uses dance, music, theater and visual art to explore problems.

At Tyler Heights we also have a robust program for our English Learner (EL) students, as ESOL instruction drives much of our instructional practices to meet the needs of our high EL population.   We have seven English Language Acquisition (ELA) teachers, and three Bilingual Teacher Assistants to provide support for our students in English and their native language. Our ELA Teachers co-teach in each classroom every day, and all students have access to a sheltered instructional approach where we focus on the language domains of Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.
