THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023

Hebron-Harman Elementary School

  • When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Hebron-Harman Elementary's School Story

  • Harman Elementary was originally named for the family who donated the land on which the school was built in 1955.  Based on the school population, Harman was designated as a Title I school, receiving funds, additional staffing, and resources for decades. The school’s population had been comprised of students who lived in varied housing structures from mobile homes, federal subsidized housing, and established communities. Over time there has been tremendous housing growth within the “Arundel Mills” area; and in 2007, this growth prompted the building of a new school.  A community decision was made to rename the school Frank Hebron-Harman in honor of the former African American teacher and teacher-principal of the school, Frank Hebron.

Frank Hebron-Harman Elementary School (HHES) currently serves 786 students, and we find that the diversity of our community is our highlight and strength. As an International BaccaIaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) elementary school, it is our school’s goal to embrace the philosophy of creating global citizens, helping guide students as they develop attitudes and attributes that contribute to their learning of new information and ideas, and taking action to improve upon the world in which we live. We have also implemented an Enhancing, Elementary, Excellence (Triple E) program with a French World Cultures and Language theme that introduces our students to people and places from around the world through fun projects and experiences. Our Triple E program was designed to spark creativity and teach students to approach problems with an open mind.
