THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023
Manor View Elementary School
-
When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement. Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts. Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.
Manor View Elementary's School Story
-
Manor View Elementary opened in 1971 and is currently undergoing a complete renovation project that is focused on modernizing our entire campus. Located on the Fort George G. Meade Army Base, we proudly serve approximately 300 first - through fifth-grade students of military and military-connected families who live on base. With many of our parents serving in the military or government, we have a high transient population.
A typical school day begins with a short car ride or walk to school where students are cheerfully greeted by numerous staff members. Students engage in daily class Community Circles to support their social-emotional needs and build relationships, while also transitioning their focus to the academic goals for the day. This includes supporting them in ways that grow their skills as agents of their own learning.
Manor View is an authorized International Baccalaureate World School where students spend the day learning through inquiry-based practices which encourage them to think critically and challenge assumptions. Throughout the day, you will see students learning across the academic disciplines (e.g., math, reading, science, social studies) by focusing on big ideas and universal concepts such as form, function, and perspective. They build their skills by asking and exploring questions, researching, using manipulatives and realia, as well as by using technology.

We provide opportunities to consider both local and global contexts in student learning and skill development. The IB Primary Years Program requires all students to receive instruction in an additional world language. At Manor View, students learn and explore Mandarin language and culture. We strive to develop students who will build a better world through intercultural understanding and respect.
One of the many benefits of being located on Fort Meade is that Manor View receives funding through the DoDEA Tapestry Grant. This grant provides resources for a wide variety of afterschool clubs, professional development opportunities for staff, and resources to support the social-emotional growth of students. The newest focus area of this grant will bring experiences in CyberTraining and coding for all of our students!
