When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Located on the Fort George G. Meade Army Installation (Ft. Meade)  our story began in 1964 when our school first opened its doors to students in Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) through grade 5. In 2011, the school program went through a transition and was re-structured. As a result, students in grades 1 - 5  were transferred to another school, and a new program was established  to serve only Pre-kindergarten, Kindergarten, and ECI learners with special needs such as speech and language, social-emotional development, or cognition.  That same year, the school was renamed West Meade Early Education Center (EEC).  

West Meade EEC is a community school and home to 286 students.  Approximately 14% of our students have disabilities ranging from speech to autism to social-emotional or other developmental delays.  Two kindergarten classes are co-taught where special education students benefit from being enrolled in a class led by a general educator and a special educator working in tandem. Our focus has been, and remains, early literacy and reading proficiency with our ECI, Pre-K, and Kindergarten students from the highly mobile military families housed within the Ft. Meade complex.
