THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023

Odenton Elementary School

  • When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Odenton Elementary's School Story

  • Odenton Elementary School (OES) is a community school located in Odenton, Maryland, fondly referred to as the “town that the train built.” Originally constructed in 1892, our school has served the close-knit community of Odenton for generations. Today, our school proudly serves students in Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade. Over the past 10 years, our student population has grown from approximately 350 students to 575 students. As our student population has expanded, we have become a diverse school which is reflective of our community.

Odenton Elementary is a comprehensive elementary school, and is also home to a Regional Program which offers smaller class sizes, and additional behavioral and social-emotional supports to families in the West County attendance area. Recently, our school transitioned to full-day Pre-Kindergarten classes to meet the needs of families in Anne Arundel County. We set high expectations for our students and ourselves; and we provide the tools and the support needed to prepare our students for academic success.

The story of Odenton Elementary School is one of growing to meet the needs of the community, and we are proud to continue that tradition today. Our school community consists of long-established families, whose members have attended our school for generations, as well as the newly-settled families. Walking the halls of Odenton Elementary School, it’s hard not to notice its eclectic design. A patchwork of walls and floor tiles tells the story of a historic school, rebuilt and renovated to serve an evolving community.
