THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023

Crofton Elementary School

  • When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Crofton Elementary's School Story

  • Crofton Elementary is a community school located in Crofton, MD and home to approximately 752 students who love being a part of the Crofton Elementary family. Crofton Elementary was the first public school in the new community of Crofton in 1969. Teachers and staff members are enthusiastic and provide a warm welcoming environment focused on positivity and kindness.

Crofton Elementary is an Excellence in Gifted and Talented Education (EGATE) school which provides advanced learning strategies and instruction for all students and implement lessons to continuously challenge our identified gifted students. By embracing students' strengths in learning, we strive to support all students' progress and academic success. Crofton Elementary is also a Maryland Reading Council Exemplary Literacy Award Winner school that has a focus on improving literacy development in all grades.

Crofton Elementary supports the idea that all means all and provides an inclusive safe learning environment where diversity and differences are celebrated daily. Within the walls of  Crofton Elementary are passionate educators cultivating a dynamic learning environment and providing all students with equitable access to opportunities and experiences to prepare them for college, career, and community. Instruction is standards-based while maintaining a student-centered focus. Students are encouraged to engage in critical thinking and problem-solving strategies where the application of skills and standards are relevant and connected to real world experiences.

Teachers and staff are interested in supporting the whole child therefore we have a variety of extracurricular activities for students to choose from. Primary students can participate in our Garden Club and submit projects to our annual STEM Fair which traditionally only included intermediate students. To support our wellness efforts, we have HERO boys, Girls on the Run, and a Dance Team for our athletic lovers. To correlate with academics we have a 24 Club, SeaPERCH Club, MESA, Continental Math League and Black Eyed Susan Reading Group. Chorus, Drama Club, and Board Game Clubs are also available. Crofton has a Student Government Association for students interested in leadership in grades 4 and 5. Each year we celebrate reading with our Reading Olympics Celebration, Vocabulary Parade and the Bowie Baysoxs Reading Challenge. These activities and clubs are run mostly by teacher and parent volunteers.

Upon entering Crofton Elementary, guests will feel the excitement and energy of all students and staff engaging in active learning through activities that create memorable moments centered around the foundation of relationships.
