THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023

Davidsonville Elementary School

  • When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Davidsonville Elementary's School Story

  • Davidsonville Elementary School has been a mainstay of the community for generations. Our school serves over 650 students in a semi-rural community comprised mostly of suburban developments and farms in central Anne Arundel County. The attendance area of Davidsonville Elementary is vast, including portions of South County, Crofton and Riva. Our community is becoming more diverse, and our students generally come from dual parent households. The parents of DES have high expectations for their children and the education provided by the staff. Together, we all work to make our school the best place for students!

Our original school building, opened in 1961, was demolished in 2002 when the current building was opened. In 2012, additional kindergarten classrooms were added to the school. Our school provides space for Anne Arundel County Parks and Recreation to offer a variety of programs, which include daily before- and after-school care, evening and weekend athletics, and summer camps.

Our Davidsonville students arrive to school ready to learn. Most of our kindergarten students have benefitted from prior school experience before turning five. Students, kindergarten through grade 5, are engaged in meaningful tasks that demonstrate their application of skills. In our classrooms, dedicated teachers cultivate a vibrant learning environment and provide each student with access to opportunities and experiences to prepare them for college, career, and community.  Students engage in thoughtfully planned, standards-based lessons and strive to grow, learn, and serve. Our students outperform the district and state on formal measures, such as AACPS Quarterly Assessments and Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP).  Most of our students meet or exceed grade-level expectations. In addition to providing rich, standards-based instruction, our staff is committed to meeting the needs of all students by supporting their social-emotional well-being.
