THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023
Point Pleasant Elementary School
-
When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement. Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts. Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.
Point Pleasant Elementary's School Story
-
First constructed and occupied in 1958, Point Pleasant Elementary School has a 61-year neighborhood school history. In 1960, a 2nd school was built making Point Pleasant Elementary School a unique two-building elementary school. In 2013, renovations to the lower school combined the two schools creating one school community.
Today, Point Pleasant Elementary School is a demographically diverse comprehensive elementary school. Our special education students make up 17% of our school enrollment, and our primary and intermediate autism classes and self-contained class make us a unique elementary school. We are extremely proud of our schoolwide PBIS motto, RISE. The guiding principles of Respect, Integrity, Success, & Effort lay the foundation for positive behavior choices, positive behavior supports, and team unity amongst all staff members. During our 3rd year as an AVID Elementary School we were recognized for our consistent and well-implemented AVID structures and teaching strategies which have created the beginnings of a sound foundation for increasing academic success. In addition, during the 2018-2019 school year, we earned AVID National Certified School status and were chosen as an AVID Showcase School. We held fall and spring AVID Showcase events highlighting our AVID implementation for neighboring schools and school districts. Our 2019-2020 goal will be to continue implementation of schoolwide Pre-K-5 AVID; strengthening community support and academic achievement through an AVID lens, and creating a fully comprehensive high-quality AVID experience for all school community members.
