THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023

Jones Elementary School

  • When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Jones Elementary's School Story

  • Jones Elementary School, a small school with a history of celebrating diversity, is tucked behind the Baltimore & Annapolis (B&A) Bike Trail. Jones currently has an enrollment of 304 students and serves communities along the Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard such as Belleview Estates, Glen Oban, Harbour Glen, and Manhattan Beach to name just a few.

We have the distinct honor of being recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School (2003), a Maryland Green School (2010, 2014, 2018), a Character School of the Year (2014), and a Wellness School of Distinction (2018). These positive accolades exemplify the tremendous focus and determination in achieving excellence in many areas through the academic, social, and emotional lens of learning.

Upon entering the school building, you will get a sense of a welcoming, friendly, and positive learning environment that is inclusive of all. The school’s pride is evident in the student work samples displayed in the hallways, as well as the awards and plaques visible for visitors to observe. The positive and friendly interactions between the staff and the parents, families, and community members are important in making Jones a school no one wants to leave.

Our goal is to continue developing students who are passionate about learning and able to transfer what they have learned in the classroom to their everyday lives. We want students to be engaged in reading a variety of texts and able to share their thinking clearly and concisely through writing. At Jones, we value critical thinking and problem solving that require students to apply a variety of strategies and processes to solve complex, real-world STEM problems; and to be able to explain their strong mathematical thinking whether with concrete manipulatives, a visual representation, or through a written explanation.
