THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023

Solley Elementary School

  • When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Solley Elementary's School Story

  • Solley Elementary is a community school, serving over 800 students, located near Curtis Bay and bordering the Baltimore City line.  The original Solley Elementary was built in 1937, and in 1995 a new building was constructed to house the present Solley Elementary. Since 1995, Solley has experienced two additions.  The first addition included six early childhood classrooms, and six 5th grade classrooms were also added in 2019.  Solley’s outstanding reputation has prompted multi-generations to stay in the area to raise their children. Students are excited to come to school where our teachers and staff care about them and engage them at high levels. Solley has a comprehensive instructional environment that actively engages students in academic learning to prepare them for college and careers.  Even though Solley is a large school of over 800 students, the staff and community work in partnership to have a shared vision with a “small school” feeling.

Solley Elementary has experienced growth as the surrounding communities have developed.  Our diverse student body represents the many cultures and nationalities which enrich our school community.  We pride ourselves on our community partnerships which include Buccaneers Athletics Club, Day Spring Presbyterian Church, Loyola University Maryland and other organizations.  The school is bustling with volunteers and visitors who bring their expertise and stories to benefit our students. We work together to foster a welcoming, positive and caring atmosphere that produces an outstanding learning environment.

Students are engaged in learning that is project based during their weekly Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) instruction provided by the Enhancing, Elementary, Excellence (Triple E) teachers.  STEM lessons provide fun environments that promote learning, while encouraging students to become inventors and innovators.  In addition, students have many opportunities to participate in co-curricular activities such as Girls On The Run, 24 Game Club, NASA Best Club, MESA Club, Sea Perch Club, Solley Dance Company and Drama Club.  At Solley, we want all students to have opportunities to be well-rounded students.
