THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023
Glen Burnie Park Elementary School
-
When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement. Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts. Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.
Glen Burnie Park Elementary's School Story
-
Originating in 1962, Glen Burnie Park Elementary (GBPE) continues to provide a warm and welcoming environment for our students and community. Once a small neighborhood school, we’ve grown to include many more communities as our population expands. We are a diverse group with unique academic and social-emotional goals, meeting each student where they are. High expectations, a differentiated approach to learning, and accountability for teachers and staff are essential, and improve daily instruction and student achievement. Grounded in a strong belief in the growth mindset, our students continue to make progress in all areas. We implement small group, differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all our students in both reading and math. This includes providing interventions and concrete models to address needs as well as increasing complexity and rigor to promote acceleration. As a Targeted Title I school, we receive funding to supplement and support these instructional endeavors. While our PARCC data doesn’t completely correlate to our students’ daily achievement, our new structures will soon show an increase in this assessment as well. Additionally, our English Language Learners represent over 12 languages and many countries from around the world. Our diversity brings us together and creates a positive learning environment. We have a strong partnership with our PTO and are steadily increasing parent and community involvement while working to increase our volunteerism.
We were fortunate to gain a 4-room kindergarten addition in 2014 and a program addition in 2020. The program addition is the first of its kind in the state of Maryland and contains a new cultural arts wing along with instructional spaces and offices for support staff. This addition helped revamp our current art and media spaces into classrooms, thus bringing all 560 students together inside the building.
Employing equitable strategies to meet the needs of our diverse learners, GBPE provides rigorous, differentiated instruction for all students while maintaining a safe, student-centered, and engaging environment. At GBPE, our motto is Be the Difference. We aspire for staff, students, and families to be positive influences in someone’s life, creating impacts that affect change, building character, and making our community and the world better.
