THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023

Annapolis Middle School

  • When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Annapolis Middle's School Story

  • Annapolis Middle School, an IB World School, is one of two middle schools in Annapolis. Originally established as Annapolis Junior High School in 1964, Annapolis Middle School is composed of a diverse and rapidly growing student population. Following redistricting in 2016-17, the student population increased by 250 students for a total student population of approximately 1,056 students.

Annapolis Middle School is one of three middle schools in Anne Arundel County designated as an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) magnet school. The MYP philosophy fosters collaboration between students through interdisciplinary units focusing on real world experiences. Through the use of the MYP Framework, we foster academic and social responsibility both inside and outside of the classroom to prepare our students for success at Annapolis High School.

Annapolis Middle School is also an Academic Achievement for All (AAA) school based on our percentage of students qualifying for free and reduced meals (FARMS). The AAA program gives our school funding to provide additional staff members, materials of instruction, professional development opportunities, and parent engagement initiatives throughout the school year. Community partners and volunteers also donate their time and resources to support the students and families of the Annapolis Middle School community.

Lastly, our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program provides a multi-tiered approach to social, emotional, and behavior support which establishes a consistent approach to managing behavior and encouraging clear, positive behavioral expectations.  This framework, along with our continued use of Restorative Practices throughout the school building, increases connections between all members of the school community and creates a positive school climate. Additional social-emotional support is provided through a partnership with the Children’s Guild for identified students and their families.
