THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023
Chesapeake Bay Middle School
-
When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement. Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts. Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.
Chesapeake Bay Middle's School Story
-
Established in 1976, Chesapeake Bay Middle (CBMS) has served close to 1100 students and their families each school year. Pasadena is home to hardworking, family-centered individuals who take pride in traditions passed on to each generation and who remain committed to demonstrating a dedicated focus to doing what they believe is best for their families. Once a rich farming and fishing region, Pasadena has evolved into an economically diverse community whose neighborhoods thrive on celebrations and traditions, including annual carnivals, holiday parades, and athletics, in addition to honoring the Chesapeake watershed and its rich benefits of watersports, crabbing, and fishing. Each year the 6th grade students plant bay grasses at Ft. Smallwood Park and release the class terrapins back into the wild at Downs Park.
Our CBMS mission is to foster life-long learners, who are empathetic citizens in our global society. We are committed to providing students with engaging instruction that is varied to meet the needs of all students. Through our daily Advisory classes, the faculty builds positive relationships and connections with students. Through our PBIS program, we focus on creating a safe and engaging environment where students and faculty feel supported and excited to come to CBMS daily. AVID strategies such as Marking the Text and taking Cornell Notes are implemented throughout the whole school. Through our AVID program, we continue to promote a “college going” environment through our annual college fair, field trips to visit area colleges, college trivia, and our weekly college wear days. Our staff is dedicated to making Chesapeake Bay Middle School a positive and safe learning environment for our students and a welcoming place for our community.
