THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023
Brooklyn Park Middle School
-
When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement. Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts. Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.
Brooklyn Park Middle's School Story
-
Brooklyn Park Middle School (BPMS), formerly Brooklyn Park High School, is an Arts Integration and Performing and Visual Arts (PVA) magnet middle school on the border of Baltimore City. BPMS takes pride in our ability to provide a welcoming and safe space in “The Hive.”
Brooklyn Park Middle School is part of a long-established community, blending cultures of both Baltimore City and Anne Arundel County. The Brooklyn Park community was formed after WWII by an industrial jobs base and The US Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay as a tight-knit, working-class area. We continue to serve multi-generational families with strong connections among many of the longtime residents.
As an Arts Integration school, students are immersed in the arts, whether in core or encore classes, clubs or performances, or in projects like the creation of our many murals. Our school is filled with student art, empowering all of us to remember we are all artists, and we can all create our world.

BPMS is heavily supported by community partnerships to ensure student social, emotional, and academic success, to offer mentors and volunteers as needed, and to support community empowerment. Some of our partnerships include Youth Empowerment Services (YES), The US Coast Guard Yard, Baltimore Washington Medical Center (BWMC), Partnership to Address the Achievement Gap in Education (PAAGE), Villa Maria, Brooklyn Park Community of Hope, The Complete Player, Young Audiences, and the Anne Arundel Department of Human Services.
