THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023

Old Mill Middle School North

  • When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Old Mill Middle North's School Story

  • Old Mill Middle North, one of three schools located within the Old Mill Complex in Millersville Maryland, opened its doors to students in 1976 serving the communities of Glen Burnie, Millersville, and Severn. After the inception of The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) in 2009, our school boundaries were expanded to reach students beyond our feeder areas and we now welcome magnet students from Pasadena and Severna Park who elect to attend our school to be a part of our whole-school MYP model.

The 1070 students that attend Old Mill Middle North are a diverse student population with a vast socio-economic range. We believe that having such a rich and diverse population is a true representation of real-world interactions, which is one of the tenants of our Middle Years Programme, as is promoting positive learner and character traits. We focus our instructional approach on examining the world and its surroundings by infusing a global lens with real-world context and cross-curricular connections.

We at Old Mill Middle North are committed to showing and demonstrating P.R.I.D.E by making sure our students are consistently Principled, Reflective, Inquirers, Determined, and Engaged. Throughout the school day you can hear teachers, administrators, and counselors reminding our students of how to incorporate these traits in their day to day interactions to help them succeed in their academics while in school, as well as, in their social interactions both at home and in the community. We are committed to helping our students achieve the skills needed to be prepared academically, while supporting social and emotional growth, in order for all of our students to be successful as they embark upon their continuum of learning.

Parents are encouraged to meet with teachers to discuss their children’s academic and social needs. Community members and community partnerships are developed to bring authentic learning opportunities to our students while in school and to offer opportunities of support for families that are in need.

Our school is committed to continue building the capacity and diversity of our staff, in order to foster a caring and committed school community that will allow our students to flourish in their academic goals and allow all students to meet the standards needed to be successful. We are committed to our students social-emotional well-being and will continue to support our students and families who have experienced trauma and crisis, in order to ensure ALL students have equitable access to learning.
