THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023

Severna Park High School

  • When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Severna Park High's School Story

  • Severna Park High School (SPHS) in Severna Park, Maryland has served the students and community since 1959.  We are a mid-sized suburban high school with a student population ranging from 1750-1950 students in any given school year. In 2017 we opened the doors to a newly constructed Severna Park High School building which replaced the original building.

A "Tradition of Excellence" is proudly displayed and touted at SPHS. We are both a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and a Green School, and we offer student-access to college preparatory, vocational, and special education programs to students in grades 9-12.  Our students participate in engaging instruction in order to acquire content knowledge and are actively involved in research-based instructional methods.  Severna Park High School continues to move from great to extraordinary.

Our high school exemplifies excellence offering a total of seventy courses, twenty-six of which are AP courses. We continue to surpass state and national standards on standardized test scores, truly helping to prepare our students to enter and succeed in college. SPHS students are highly motivated to learn and succeed in all curricular endeavors due to the highly trained and qualified teachers, administrators, and support staff in our building who assure that all curricular areas are aligned with local and state standards, goals, and outcomes.  However, our story of success is not measured by standardized test scores or grades alone. Our school’s achievements are not just in the classroom but in the arts, athletics, music, and other areas of student involvement. As much as academics, these latter areas are valued by our students, parents, and community and also promote student growth and achievement.  Lastly, SPHS  is dedicated to meeting the social, emotional, and academic needs of ALL learners, with the ultimate goal of eliminating all gaps, and elevating ALL students.
