The students who attend Jessup Elementary School are influenced daily by events, situations, and circumstances that occur at home and in their neighborhood. While there are numerous factors that contribute to student achievement at Jessup Elementary, the school leadership team has narrowed its focus to the following challenges to student success, with the acknowledgement that this is not an all-inclusive list and that some students may be affected by other opportunities or issues in their young lives.

Our Mission is Elevating All Students and Eliminating All Gaps. We value Relationships, Rigor, and Readiness. Our Theme is We are All Leaders of Connectedness (Supporting social emotional well-being), that all students will achieve and grow to be responsible leaders with good character for all to envy. We currently have 564 students ECI, PreK-5 (25% African American, 6% Asian, 23% Hispanic, 14% Multiracial, 32% White). The student to teacher Ratio is 24:1 Approximately 31% receive Free or Reduced Meals.The culture of the school is positive. Our students love coming to school!
Teachers are working diligently to teach, model, and reinforce good character through C.H.A.M.P.S/Second Step and providing leadership opportunities in and out of the school building to support and/or provide school/community service needs. PARCC scores (2017-2018) indicate we are right in line with the county/state average with the exception of Math which is slight lower. The percentage of students scoring a high Proficiency Level 4/5 have increased in Math from the previous year by 4.3% and in Language Arts the percentage slightly decreased by -2.4%. Approximately 80% of our current 2nd Grade students are reading at or above grade level and approximately 81% of students in Grade 1-5 are reading on or above grade level.
We will continue to provide rigorous curriculum and engaging instruction to include writing fluency to elevate all students' Math and Reading Levels and eliminate gaps in students' learning through conferring, identifying students' goals/next steps for increase achievement,C.H.A.M.P.S, connectedness, leadership opportunities, and increasing students' social emotional well-being so all students feel valued and connected. Our focus will be increasing the number of students reading at and above reading levels in Grades 1-5, as well as, increasing the number of students in our above Math Groups in Grades 3-5 (Grade 3-49 out of 92 students; Grade 4-37 out of 93 students; Grade 5-25 out of 81 students). While continuing a safe, orderly, nurturing learning environment where students work hard on goals, who are smart leaders with good character and are all kind and respectful to all.
