Mayo Elementary School

Strategic Plan Indicators

  • After each school leadership team reflected on its school culture, community, and the key contributing factors to student growth, they used this information to select the Strategic Plan Indicators that would have the greatest positive impact for their students.  Each school was directed to select two to six indicators on which to focus during the 2018-19 school year.  Certainly, we all know that if we focus narrowly and deeply, we are more likely to realize positive results.  The indicators that this school’s leadership team selected are noted below.

Strategic Journey

  • Throughout the next 3 years, schools will focus on their chosen Strategic Plan Indicators as the drivers to increase student engagement and achievement within their schools.  They will choose strategies to help them grow or increase within each indicator and will monitor and evaluate the student and school changes that take place along the journey.  Below you will see what this school imagines their students and school to look like in 2021 after having focused and worked on their chosen indicators for three years.

Our Vision of Success: 2021

  • At Mayo Elementary, we will continue to be a very close knit and optimistic community on the Mayo peninsula. All who come into our school will experience a friendly and welcoming environment, where diversity is cherished and celebrated. There will be a sense of community among all stakeholders at Mayo Elementary, and adults will continue to work hard to support one another and our students for their continued success. Mayo Elementary staff members will continue to build honest and caring relationships with their students. We will celebrate our WATCHDOG program as our Mayo Dads continue their in-school support of our teachers and students on a weekly basis. (Indicators 1 and 11)

Adult and student routines will focus on the implementation of Guided Reading, which will ensure that we are meeting the needs of all students at their instructional reading level in order to effectively support their growth. Our Reading Team will continue their work to build teacher capacity in all areas of Guided Reading instruction through professional development, collaborative planning, and coaching. In addition, our Academic Team will use walkthrough data to differentiate teacher support and next steps. Students will use a variety of strategies to increase engagement while reading, including visible thinking routines, student-to-student discourse, and the application of “reading goals” (developed during student conferences with teachers). (Indicators 5 and 6)

Students will be engaged, rewarded, and recognized for their academic accomplishments on a monthly basis. Reading incentives, such as our Reading Bracelet Program (for all students K-2) and our Caring Canines Program, will be in place to encourage and motivate our students to strive to reach their reading goals. Our PTO Volunteers, Reading Teacher and School Counselor will continue to collaborate in making the Caring Canines Program available to all students at Mayo Elementary.  (Indicators 5 and 6)
