West Annapolis Elementary School

Strategic Plan Indicators

  • After each school leadership team reflected on its school culture, community, and the key contributing factors to student growth, they used this information to select the Strategic Plan Indicators that would have the greatest positive impact for their students.  Each school was directed to select two to six indicators on which to focus during the 2018-19 school year.  Certainly, we all know that if we focus narrowly and deeply, we are more likely to realize positive results.  The indicators that this school’s leadership team selected are noted below.

  • 2019-2020 Strategic Plan Indicator(s) Chosen by the School - 1, 3, 5, 6 (expand to view details)

    View Full List/Descriptions of Indicators

Indicator 1.  INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS, FAMILIES, STAFF, AND PARTNERS WHO REPORT FEELING LIKE A VALUABLE MEMBER OF THE SCHOOL OR SCHOOL SYSTEM COMMUNITY

Indicator 3.  INCREASE THE USE OF RESTORATIVE PRACTICES IN SCHOOLS AND OFFICES

Indicator 5. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS WHO READ ON OR ABOVE GRADE LEVEL BY THE END OF SECOND GRADE

Indicator 6. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS IN GRADES 3-8 WHO MEET OR EXCEED EXPECTATIONS ON STANDARDIZED READING, LANGUAGE ARTS, AND MATHEMATICS ASSESSMENTS

We added the indicator under climate referring to the use of Restorative Practices as we became a Restorative Practices/Community Building Circle school this school year 19-20.

Discipline data demonstrated that we needed students to form not only relationships with teachers but with each other to build respect and empathy for all.

Strategic Journey

  • Throughout the next 3 years, schools will focus on their chosen Strategic Plan Indicators as the drivers to increase student engagement and achievement within their schools.  They will choose strategies to help them grow or increase within each indicator and will monitor and evaluate the student and school changes that take place along the journey.  Below you will see what this school imagines their students and school to look like in 2021 after having focused and worked on their chosen indicators for three years.

Our Vision of Success: 2021

  • We will continue to embrace relationship building with students and their families as well as participating in ongoing Equity Professional Development. Teachers will incorporate relationship building activities into weekly lesson plans, guidance lessons will include frequent community circles, and the PTA will continue to reach out to new families with care packages and our New Student Social. Guided by a desire to build a strong and positive community, our teachers will begin each instructional day with Community Building Circles to foster the use of Restorative Practices in classrooms. (Indicators 1 and 3)

We will continue to enhance our practices of literacy instruction through consistent progress monitoring, targeted interventions, and differentiation to grow all learners. We will also continue to cultivate a school climate of literacy through reading incentives, student goal setting, guest readers, book clubs, media center programs, assemblies, and our annual Book Swap. Building students’ math modeling and reasoning skills will remain a priority in addition to mastering fact fluency. Students, staff and parents will continue to work hard to build relationships, celebrate students’ success, and  make teaching and learning a priority. (Indicator 5)

Students will say that they feel a connection to West Annapolis Elementary School and their classroom community, as a result of participating in Community Building Circles and other Restorative Practices. Students will also say that they feel prepared for standardized assessments, and successful when completing them. (Indicators 1, 3 and 6)

Adults will feel like valuable members of the West Annapolis Elementary School community. Adults will see students reading on or above their grade level and developing a love of reading. Lastly, adults will also see an increase in the percentage of students across ALL student groups meeting or exceeding standards as indicated in PARCC performance. (Indicators 1, 5 and 6).
