Strategic Plan Indicators

  • After each school leadership team reflected on its school culture, community, and the key contributing factors to student growth, they used this information to select the Strategic Plan Indicators that would have the greatest positive impact for their students.  Each school was directed to select two to six indicators on which to focus during the 2018-19 school year.  Certainly, we all know that if we focus narrowly and deeply, we are more likely to realize positive results.  The indicators that this school’s leadership team selected are noted below.

  • 2019-2020 Strategic Plan Indicator(s) Chosen by the School - 3, 5, 6, 10 (expand to view details)

Strategic Journey

  • Throughout the next 3 years, schools will focus on their chosen Strategic Plan Indicators as the drivers to increase student engagement and achievement within their schools.  They will choose strategies to help them grow or increase within each indicator and will monitor and evaluate the student and school changes that take place along the journey.  Below you will see what this school imagines their students and school to look like in 2021 after having focused and worked on their chosen indicators for three years.

Our Vision of Success: 2021

  • During the 2019-2020 school year and leading into the 2020-2021 school year, the staff of Point Pleasant Elementary are committed to implementing Restorative Practices throughout our school. Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, we focused on the implementation of Community Building Circles in each of our classrooms. The goal was to increase the sense of community and care within each of our classrooms, both student-to-student and teacher-to-student.

As we move into the 2019-2020 school year, our continued commitment to this structure will further our social-emotional growth and the strength of our relationships. Community Building Circles will take place in each classroom each day of the week. As a result, students will have built more meaningful relationships with others and have a greater sense of community within our school. Students will feel better connected to the adults within our school, and all students will be given opportunities to restore relationships and grow from their mistakes. Students will learn to build relationships and consider the feelings of one another. Overall, students will feel a greater sense of belonging and social-emotional connection to our school.

Adults in our school community will also be positively impacted by the successful implementation of Restorative Practices. Adults will observe Community Building Circles occurring on a daily basis in all classrooms, as well as a greater sense of school community. Adult-to-student interactions will be increasingly positive; and adult actions will be significantly more restorative, as opposed to punitive, in response to student behavior. Additionally, all adults will interact with students in a meaningful and purposeful manner that shows respect for their learning and continued growth. Moreover, all adult stakeholders will have “bought into” the full implementation of Restorative Practices. School Administration will see increasing numbers of positive referrals, noting and celebrating the positive interactions among our students. Adults within our school community will share an increased sense of pride regarding student-to-student and adult-to-student interactions. Respect and positivity will permeate the school climate and a restorative culture will be institutionalized.

Also during the 2019-2020 school year, and leading into the 2020-2021 school year, Point Pleasant Elementary will be committed to increasing the percentage of students who read on or above grade level by the end of second grade. The increasing effectiveness of Guided Reading instruction, and a continued commitment to the growth of Guided Reading instruction will be observed. The continued professional growth of our teachers and unwavering commitment to high-quality literacy instruction will be in the forefront of our daily work. Students will be thoroughly engaged in rigorous and differentiated literacy learning each school day. Teachers will, with increasing ease and expertise, access the curriculum embedded literacy resources for their particular grade level. We will focus our strategic efforts to continually grow the art of teaching Guided Reading within each grade level, especially within Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade to ensure that all students are at grade level by the conclusion of their second grade year.

As a result, students will see increasing amounts of rigorous literacy-based learning in all content areas. Students will receive daily high-quality Guided Reading instruction linked to their respective reading levels and will also engage in literacy activities and meaningful challenging follow-up work. All students will be exposed to literacy-rich learning each and every day as they embrace their learning and set personal goals for literacy growth. Students will be excited to face the challenge of becoming better readers and find joy in that journey. Personal goals will be set, and students will openly embrace their learning and find genuine excitement in the process.

Adults will experience an increasing knowledge-base and ability to deliver standards-based literacy instruction. Adults will recognize the culture of literacy within our school and affirm the increasing success of our readers. Teachers will be excited to embrace the increased literacy of our students, and teacher efficacy will be high. Adults in our building and outside our building will be fully supportive and passionate about the increased success of our learners.
