Strategic Plan Indicators

  • After each school leadership team reflected on its school culture, community, and the key contributing factors to student growth, they used this information to select the Strategic Plan Indicators that would have the greatest positive impact for their students.  Each school was directed to select two to six indicators on which to focus during the 2018-19 school year.  Certainly, we all know that if we focus narrowly and deeply, we are more likely to realize positive results.  The indicators that this school’s leadership team selected are noted below.

Strategic Journey

  • Throughout the next 3 years, schools will focus on their chosen Strategic Plan Indicators as the drivers to increase student engagement and achievement within their schools.  They will choose strategies to help them grow or increase within each indicator and will monitor and evaluate the student and school changes that take place along the journey.  Below you will see what this school imagines their students and school to look like in 2021 after having focused and worked on their chosen indicators for three years.

Our Vision of Success: 2021

  • Shipley’s Choice Elementary will continue on this journey by revisiting key strategies, sharing best practices, and reflecting about our successes and areas that need improvement.  There will continue to be a large number of students who exceed expectations on state assessments; and teachers will continue to collaborate and plan ensuring that this success is mirrored on classroom assessments and day to day performance. Staff and teachers will also work to ensure that students’ social and emotional needs are being met.  (Indicators 1 and 6)

The school’s leadership team and school-wide School Improvement Team will work strategically to meet our school-wide goals.  To accomplish the goal of increasing the number of students who exceed on assessments, we will continue to focus on comprehension, mathematical problem solving/ reasoning, and using technology to enhance learning. These techniques will be the focus of collaborative planning, vertical team meetings, and professional development.  To foster growth in language arts and math, we will use AACPS Data protocols for analyzing quarterly and other assessments so that teachers may purposefully select instructional practices and materials to match students’ needs. Students at Shipley’s Choice will continue to be engaged in a wide range of lessons and materials that pique their interest and engage their minds. They will continue to enjoy school and feel challenged and successful. Students will see peers who get along, are respectful, work hard, and are positive. Fewer students would report feeling stress, anxiety or excessive pressure relating to school because they have continued to develop their own growth mindset and interpersonal skills.  (Indicator 1)

Adults will see happy, engaged students who get along with each other and are able to solve their disagreements. They will see students who persevere and are eager risk takers. Adults will say that the school is a welcoming, inclusive, energized place where students enjoy coming to school, love learning, and are growing into thinkers and conscientious citizens. They will also say that all students are successful on standardized assessments and in the classroom. (Indicators 1 and 6)
