Arundel High School

Strategic Plan Indicators

  • After each school leadership team reflected on its school culture, community, and the key contributing factors to student growth, they used this information to select the Strategic Plan Indicators that would have the greatest positive impact for their students.  Each school was directed to select two to six indicators on which to focus during the 2018-19 school year.  Certainly, we all know that if we focus narrowly and deeply, we are more likely to realize positive results.  The indicators that this school’s leadership team selected are noted below.

  • 2018-2019 Strategic Plan Indicator(s) Chosen by the School - 1, 7, 10, 13 (expand to view details)

Indicator 10. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS ATTENDING SCHOOL ON A DAILY BASIS

Indicator 13. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS COMPLETING CAREER-BASED PROFESSIONAL INTERNSHIPS

  • 2019-2020 Strategic Plan Indicator(s) Chosen by the School - 1, 10, 13 (expand to view details)

The School Improvement Team had originally included Indicator 7 referencing end of course assessment.   However, in order to make the plan more manageable for this school year, the team has move end of course assessment performance as a action step under the College and Career Readiness goal because students must be successful on the assessments to avoid remedial classes and Bridge for Academic Validation courses.  In order for students to have time their schedules for dual enrollment and internship experiences and other CTE elective that build career skills, they must successfully pass MCAP assessment on their initial attempt.

Strategic Journey

  • Throughout the next 3 years, schools will focus on their chosen Strategic Plan Indicators as the drivers to increase student engagement and achievement within their schools.  They will choose strategies to help them grow or increase within each indicator and will monitor and evaluate the student and school changes that take place along the journey.  Below you will see what this school imagines their students and school to look like in 2021 after having focused and worked on their chosen indicators for three years.

Our Vision of Success: 2021

  • By the spring of 2020, new and effective routines and practices will be implemented to contribute to student growth and success. New attendance initiatives will be a regular focus of advisory teachers who will explicitly teach students how to set attendance goals in order to achieve or maintain fewer than ten absences per year. Improved attendance rates will contribute to our growth in the areas of academic success, student retention, test scores, student empowerment, and graduation. (Indicator 10)

Arundel will reinforce values and positive cultural norms (such as attendance goals, demonstrations of respect, kindness, leadership, etc.), which will contribute to our collective growth. There will be an expectation that all stakeholders (students, teachers, administrators, and the school community) work cooperatively together to provide incentive/motivation for students to achieve and contribute to the culture of success. With an increasing culture of success, students may work more diligently to attain these rewards/celebrations and improve attendance, school performance, and respect for staff and each other. (Indicators 1 & 10)

By the year 2020, there will be new routines and procedures for Social Action Projects, student internships, and enrollment in ECAP/AACC courses (Early College Access Program at Anne Arundel Community College). A new framework will be in place to provide support for each of these valuable college and career experiences.  It is expected that participation will increase in these professional learning opportunities and the programs will be popular, valued, and respected among our students as they purposely seek to be college and career ready. (Indicator 13)

Students will utilize a Career Center buzzing with activity and staffed with people to answer their questions and provide examples of student success stories. They will see graduating students earning recognition for completing professional job experiences and become more motivated to engage in an internship, Social Action Project, or ECAP/AACC course. These enhanced college and career practices will build confidence and preparation in students for life-long learning and professional job experiences before high school graduation. Arundel students will be more focused during their senior year and pursue experiences that align with their future passions.  (Indicator 13)
