Strategic Plan Indicators

  • After each school leadership team reflected on its school culture, community, and the key contributing factors to student growth, they used this information to select the Strategic Plan Indicators that would have the greatest positive impact for their students.  Each school was directed to select two to six indicators on which to focus during the 2018-19 school year.  Certainly, we all know that if we focus narrowly and deeply, we are more likely to realize positive results.  The indicators that this school’s leadership team selected are noted below.

Strategic Journey

  • Throughout the next 3 years, schools will focus on their chosen Strategic Plan Indicators as the drivers to increase student engagement and achievement within their schools.  They will choose strategies to help them grow or increase within each indicator and will monitor and evaluate the student and school changes that take place along the journey.  Below you will see what this school imagines their students and school to look like in 2021 after having focused and worked on their chosen indicators for three years.

Our Vision of Success: 2021

  • The 2019-20 school year continues our focus on creating a welcoming school community that embraces all students, staff, and stakeholders. The newly-established PTA will continue to support Ruth Parker Eason (including staff, instructional practices, family engagement, etc.) through their involvement, fundraising, and activities. Increased opportunities for parents to volunteer and attend school events are already taking place and will expand this year.  Recognizing the importance of the home–school connection, communication to families will continue to occur regularly and in a variety of methods to ensure access for all families. School-wide wellness is at the forefront of staff meetings and ongoing activities. This includes team-building exercises that are incorporated into School Improvement and Staff meetings. Additionally, a wellness committee will be established to plan monthly events to promote both emotional and physical wellness for staff. (Indicator 1 and 2)

All stakeholders in our school community will see ongoing opportunities for school, community partners, and families to engage in events and activities at Ruth Eason. The interests and needs of our community will be addressed through such events, as well as the provision of parent resources and learning opportunities. Those who enter our school will feel welcome and experience a sense of acceptance and belonging for ALL, which will be felt and observed through the day-to-day interactions between members of our school community (students, staff, parents, support staff, community partners, etc). As our staff continues to cultivate relationships, we will strive to learn the story behind each student and family. Treating everyone with respect and setting high expectations for our students are Ruth Eason standards that will be communicated and modeled by staff (Indicators 1, 2 and 4).

A heavy focus on communication has been targeted through our School Improvement Plan because our students’ ability to understand (receptive) and produce (expressive) language has a direct correlation to their skill development in reading.  Daily use of Core Vocabulary boards, individual student communication systems, and effective communication strategies will be evident in all classrooms. Professional Development dedicated to these practices and tools takes place each month for the entire staff. This same training will also be provided to parents via seminars, and a focused series of Professional Development opportunities will be delivered to our paraeducators and instructional assistants. Collaboration between our speech department and the department of special education is important in the implementation and maintenance of our communication goals. (Indicator 6)

Adults throughout our school will notice an overall expectation that every student communicate in a method that is best suited for their individual strengths and needs. They will observe common practices and strategies across all settings to promote communication. In addition, communication tools (student communication devices, Core boards, voice output devices, etc.) will be in place, accessible, and used in every classroom. Communication throughout Ruth Parker Eason will be differentiated and meaningful for each student to support the goal of generalization of skills to enhance communication in the home and community settings.
