THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023
Rippling Woods Elementary School
-
When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement. Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts. Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.
Rippling Woods Elementary's School Story
-
Rippling Woods Elementary School, located in Glen Burnie, MD, welcomes 650 students daily from local communities including single family homes and apartment complexes. We are made up of a dedicated staff (including National Board Certified Teachers), with years of educational experience that ranges from brand new to 31 years. Our drive is to create an atmosphere of strength, empathy, risk, kindness and with the importance of building strong relationships. A school that once saw tremendous staff mobility, has now found its family. Ninety-eight percent of the staff reported the connectedness/ feeling like they belong. Ninety percent of students reported their teachers encourage them to work hard while in class. We embrace and welcome our families and community to become part of the “ P.A.N.D.A. Nation” at RWES. (Positive attitude; Active communication, Nurturing relationship, Dynamic engagement & Astounding expectations). We strive to be the school that students enter in kindergarten and leave us as they go on to middle school.

We are a Title 1 (Targeted) school that is on the move! Additional resources help our students blossom! This funding supports staffing, technology, hands-on materials, professional development, book studies, multiple parent nights and after-school/ summer extension programs. Since becoming a Title 1 Targeted school, we have been able to hire additional staff. We currently have two full-time Title I math teachers, one part time math Student Instructional Support Teacher (SIST), one full-time reading Student Instructional Support Teacher and one part time math/reading SIST. Recently we were able to hire a full-time Title 1 Teaching Assistant to provide overall support where needed.
Our student body is diverse – we have students from all over our world! This year, we will celebrate our uniqueness through an amazing, as well as engaging, Diversity Showcase. The night will include food, customs, stories, and activities from the different cultures that make up our school community. Rippling Woods Elementary is a school that highly embraces the FISH! Philosophy. This mindset of “Making Their Day; Play; Being There; and Choosing a Positive Attitude” creates a workplace of passion, energy, and a true family atmosphere. Teachers and staff, who have all completed professional development and book studies regarding Fish!, implement these strategies daily during morning lessons as well as embed the language and philosophy throughout the day. The natural, genuine impact has created a more positive, empathetic learning environment for students and staff.
We celebrate both our academic and behavioral accomplishments and utilize our Gold Status PBIS platform as our guide. Our laser focus on helping all students meet/exceed the expected reading level by the end of 2nd grade is relentless (Indicator 2). Through the use of hands-on learning, we expect to meet/exceed when compared to other schools within the Old Mill Feeder System.
This is a school on a journey of greatness. With a 79% decrease in behavior referrals in less than two years, our quest to follow expected school rules continues. Our small steps have become leaps and we can’t wait to see where we land! Rippling Woods Elementary is simply an amazing school that has found its footing and is ready to launch!
