Summer Interns Dress for Success
-
Dressing for success may sound humorous, but how you present yourself is an important component for success in the workplace. While summer is certainly a time for more casual dress, there is a level of professional dress expected for those working for AACPS throughout all months of year. Below you will find the expectations for dress for our summer interns.
- For Students Interning in Elementary School Camps or Programs
Since you will be working alongside children both inside and outside during the month of July, you should wear clothes that allow you to move and play. The expectation is that you will wear clothes to support your ability to move about the classroom and playground easily. Shorts and t-shirts are permitted as long as they are appropriate (same rules apply here as during the school year). Please wear close-toed shoes. Please remember that you are an employee who is representing AACPS.
II. For Students Interning in AACPS Offices
Since you will be working alongside employees in an office environment, you should wear clothes that allow you to be comfortable while also being professional. The expectation is that you will wear clothes to support your ability to do the work assigned to you. Business casual dress is recommended. Shorts are not permitted. Please wear close-toed shoes. Please remember that you are an employee who is representing AACPS.
“"What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today, when human contacts are so quick. Fashion is instant language."

“Besides getting a foot in the door with a potential employer and looking good on a resume, internships have other advantages, such as the opportunity to ‘test drive’ a career.”

Professor of Finance, Gordon College
