Centers Of Applied Technology
Anne Arundel County Public Schools is lucky to have two Centers of Applied Technology — CAT North and CAT South. Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs at each school provide students with technical and academic skills needed for high wage, high skill, in demand professions. Programs in both centers offer industry recognized certifications and often college credit. Students apply theory and knowledge towards increasing skills proficiency in the classroom and develop employable skills through hands-on, real-world experiences.
Students apply for the Career Explorations program in 8th or 9th grade. This program allows students to explore 4 different CTE programs at their assigned CAT school.
In 9th or 10th grade, students apply for a Level 1 course in their program of choice. Most programs are 2 years and require a commitment of up to 2 periods per school day.
